ATTENTION LOYAL CLIENTS: Our Summer Programs will sell out fast. If the program you are registering for is full please continue with the online registration your child will be wait-listed. You will be in our system to be contacted if a spot opens up or if we expand.

Here at The Burlington Pond, we do not hold our players back. If we deem midway through a session that your child should be in a higher level clinic, WE WILL MOVE them to the appropriate clinic (upon Pond Instructor approval). 

Learn to Skate Pathway GREENRED, BLUE

Our Learn to Skate Program offers a friendly fun-filled first-time on-ice instruction. We highly recommend skaters complete the Learn to Skate Pathway GREEN, RED,  BLUE Levels. Progressing through the three levels provides the skating skills needed to build a solid hockey foundation. Skaters will be taught the basic fundamentals of skating; forward skating, backward skating, balance, turning, stopping, crossovers and edges. The Learn to Skate is the build blocks to achieve all levels of hockey House League or Rep Hockey!

Mandatory & Suggested Equipment:

  • Helmet with a face mask (mandatory)
  • Hockey Skates or Figure Skates (Plastic Skates are not recommended)
  • Snow pants & Jacket
  • Gloves / Mittens
  • *Knee / Elbow pads should be worn, however sometimes they can restrict movement for very small children

1. GREEN LEVEL: Beginner 

  • Registration Requirements: new skater with little to no experience.
  • Green Level will focus on: Skaters will learn the basics of falling down and getting up on their own, forward and backward skating, and build confidence

2. RED LEVEL: Intermediate

  • Registration Requirements: Graduates of Green Level or skater must be able to skate forwards and walk backward with ease and have the basics of stopping with speed and turns.
  • Red Level will focus on: Skaters will work on different types of stops, turns, and glides while also adding speed.

Skaters are required to complete RED LEVEL to move to the Ages 4 to 7 Kinder Hockey Pathway Purple OR Ages 7 to 13 House League Player Pathway Beginner Power Skating.

3. BLUE LEVEL: Advanced

  • Registration Requirements: Graduates of Red Level or skater must be able to stop, turn and glide using both feet with speed.
  • Blue Level will focus on: Skaters will work on more difficult skills to prepare them for the next level which includes forward and backward skills, introduction to crosscuts and edges, and different transitions.

Skaters are required to complete BLUE LEVEL to move to the Ages 5- 8 Pre Rep Player Pathway.

Ages 4 to 7 Kinder Hockey Pathway RED & BLUE

Our Kinder Hockey Pathway for ages 4 to 7 provides the skating and hockey skills needed to build a solid hockey foundation. This is a perfect program to get your child ready for organized hockey! This program is for “New to Hockey or Beginner Players.” A pond Hockey Jersey is Provided and Full Hockey Equipment is required. We highly recommend skaters aged 4 to 7 complete the Kinder Hockey Pathway RED and BLUE Levels. Completing these two levels of Kinder Hockey opens the progression door to House League or Rep Hockey clinics at The Burlington Pond.

1. RED LEVEL: Beginner

  • Registration Requirements: Graduate of Red Level Learn to Skate or See Red Skating Level Requirements
  • Kinder Hockey Red Level will focus on: Skaters will further develop their basic skills like skating, stopping, turns, and edges in full hockey gear. Red Level Kinder Hockey Group Skaters will be introduced to mini 3 on 3 hockey games over the duration of the program.

2. BLUE LEVEL: Intermediate/Advanced

  • Registration Requirements:  Graduate of Red Level Kinder or Blue Level Learn to Skate see Blue Skating Level Requirements
  • Kinder Hockey Blue Level will focus on: Sessions are a mix of skills and incorporating new elements into different drills and transitions. Skaters will continue to learn how to build speed. Skating with the puck and some puck control along with 3 on 3 games.

Graduates of the Kinder Hockey Program Blue Level can jump to House League Pathway or Pre Rep Pathway.

Ages 5 to 8 Pre Rep Hockey Pathway Levels 1 to 3

Our Pre Rep Player Pathway is the road to REP HOCKEY and is divided into 3 levels. These clinics provide the skating and hockey skills needed to build a solid hockey foundation. All Pre Rep Player clinics require Full Hockey Equipment. We highly recommend players complete the following Pre Rep Player Pathway Levels 1 to 3. Progressing through the levels provides players with the tools they need for optimal development to achieve all levels of Rep Hockey and beyond.

LEVEL 1

PRE POWER SKATING:

This program is for graduates of our Learn to Skate Blue Level. Pre Power & Puck will continue to progress on the fundamentals of skating to prepare skaters to play hockey. This program will focus on: Pre-Power Skating skills (introduction to advanced power skating) ie; Forwards & Backwards skating, Stopping, Introduction to Cross-overs & edges, Skating with the puck & Puck control.


LEVEL 2

SUPER 5 and 6: 

This program is for graduates of Pre Power & Puck – Level 1 OR above average skill level approved by Pond Instructor. This program offers young players the fundamentals of playing hockey at the rep level. High-tempo sessions revolve around power skating, advancing stride, quickness, and agility. All skills are then coupled with puck handling to develop better puck control. This program will focus on: Power Skating, Explosive Quick Starts, Acceleration, Edge Control incl. Crossovers; forward and backward, Puck handling & Passing, and Shooting.


LEVEL 3

SUPER 7 and 8:

This program is for graduates of Super 5 and 6 – Level 2 OR above average skill level. This program is the prerequisite for all ‘Pathway Players’ at The Pond wanting Rep Hockey Training. Super 7 and 8 is the high tempo progression from the Super 5 & 6 clinic. This program is the foundation to getting players ready and approved to make the jump into our high-end rep clinics. This program will focus on: Power Skating, Explosive Quick Starts, Acceleration, Edge Control, Crossovers; forward and backward & Puck handling.


LEVELS 2 & 3

PHD – POND HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT: This program is a POND FAVOURITE and very popular for players ages 5-7.

This program is for graduates of Super 5 and 6 OR approved by Pond Instructor. The PHD program is for families looking for a better hockey ‘Initiation Program’ (I.P.) experience. This program is coached to a Rep Level. Players will be introduced to disciplined team practices, focusing on the tasks at hand.  This program offers two training sessions per week; Mondays is a skills session with our Elite Coaches Michele or Ryan. Fridays is a 3 on 3 games supervised by Coach Josh. Start your child off on the right foot. We will train and correct players to instil proper hockey fundamentals. In-game; Players will receive equal ice times and experience all positions, Forward/Defence and goalie. All players will rotate in the goalie position. No full-time goalies. No Friend requests. Teams will be made after the coaches have had time to evaluate all players.

POWER SKATING & PUCK SKILLS: Intermediate Players

This program is for graduates of Power Skating Level 1 – Beginners Players. This program focuses on: Accelerating forwards skating, Backwards skating development, Introduction to edges. Stopping and Introduction to puck drills.


LEVEL 3

EVERYTHING HOCKEY: Advanced Players

This program is for graduates of Power Skating & Puck Skills Level 2 – Intermediate Players. This program focuses on: Power Skating, Puck Control, Edge Work, Over Speed, Quickness, Shooting, and EVERYTHING you need to play hockey!

GIRLS ONLY Power Skating & Puck Control: Advanced Players

The Pillars to Elite Hockey Programs were designed and created by The Moore Family and our team of Pond Coaches. It is designed to establish a solid foundation for skating and hockey development. Our dedicated owners; Coaches Greg, Ryan, and Michele along with Pond Certified coaches Graham, James, and Josh, and Emma will monitor player’s development weekly. Our coaches will not hold players back or expose players to levels they are not yet ready for. Should your player require a different level clinic, WE WILL MOVE THEM to the appropriate clinic (upon Pond Instructor approval). Your child is required to earn their position by working hard! Below are descriptions of the programs we offer to our Rep and Elite Players. We highly recommend players complete the following Rep & Elite Pathway Clinics. We also strongly encourage parents to rotate your player through our spectrum of programs for optimal development in every area of the game.

MICHELE & RYAN INTRO TO REP ACCELERATION, STRIDE & EDGES: This program is the prerequisite for all ‘Pathway Players Ages 8 & 9. This rep introductory clinic prepares players for the road to Elite Hockey. Coaches Michele & Ryan rotate weekly to build a strong foundation of edges and acceleration. This program will focus on: Stride Technique, Stride Power, Weight Transfer, Generating Power Through Edges, Transitions & Crossovers (forwards /backwards), small & large area acceleration, lateral acceleration, straight acceleration, all with and without a puck.


LEVEL A, AA:

REP POWER SKATING & PUCK SKILLS

  • Ages 8 to 10: This clinic is for graduates of Girls Only, Power & Puck (must be recommended by coach Josh) Super 7 & 8 or approved A, AA Players.
  • Ages 11 to 13: This clinic is recommended to balance skill development between Coach Michele’s & Ryan’s clinics. (Approved A Players), AA, AA

JAMES REP POWER SKATING & PUCK SKILLS: This clinic compliments your Rep Schedule with training intended to keep players sharp and progressing through the season. This program focuses on: Power Skating, Edges and Overspeed, Stickhandling, Small Area Puck Control, Speed with Puck, Passing, and Shooting.


LEVEL AA, AAA: 

REP DEFENCE CLINIC

  • Ages 10 to 13: (Approved A Players,) AA, AAA Players

RYAN’S REP DEFENCE CLINIC: We produce top results. Our defensemen get to the top of their game! We will build the assets needed to be the next great defensemen. This clinic is designed to develop the essential skills to become a great defenseman. This is not a positional program it is a skill development program. Your player will learn the most important skills to play defense including QUICK FEET, LATERAL MOVEMENT, PUCK MOVEMENT, EFFICIENCY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…..THE ABILITY TO PLAY HEADS UP HOCKEY WITH CLEAR VISION OF THE ICE


Level A, AA & AA, AAA: 

C.A.T. (CONFINED AREA TRAINING)  

  • Ages 10 to 12:  A, AA, Players
  • Ages 13 to 15: (Approved A-Players,) AA, AAA Players

GRAHAMS C.A.T TRAINING (Confined Area Training): Change up your training and try something new & exciting! 

This program focuses on: playing with the puck in confined areas. This method of development is used from the beginner level all the way to N.H.L. practices. C.A.T. will include coach-controlled in zone battles, corner battles, and keep-away battles. Confining space forces players to adapt to the added pressures all while having TONS OF FUN! “They don’t even know they’re training and developing” – Adam Oates on Confined Area Training

Benefits of C.A.T. Games are: On Offence:

  • Players have limited time and space with the puck
  • Players learn to transition quickly
  • Players are forced to lift their head to find more or better options
  • Players are forced to make quick decisions
  • Players are forced to handle and control the puck

  • Players learn how to create time and space
  • Players learn how to get open or shake coverage

  • Players learn to read their opponents movements

  • Ages 9 to 11: Approved AA, AAA Rep Player. If your child is new to the Pond and has not completed any level 2 clinics your player is required to be approved by Pond Coaches.
  • Ages 12 to 14: Approved AA, AAA Rep Player. If your child is new to the Pond and has not completed any level 2 clinics your player is required to be approved by Pond Coaches.

MICHELE’S REP EXPLOSIVE STRIDE & EDGES: POPULAR PROGRAM – Sells out fast

Players are required to progress through the appropriate levels due to Michele’s high standards. This clinic is designed for elite high-end rep players! Michele puts players to work with her vast skating knowledge. Her skill and technique are sought after and give players the edge over their opponents. This program will focus on: Stride Technique, Stride Power, Advanced Edge Manipulation, Weight Transfer, Generating Power Through Edges, Transitions & Crossovers (forwards/backwards).


LEVEL AA, AAA:

REP ACCELERATION & SPEED TRAINING

  • Ages 9 to 11: Approved AA, AAA Rep Player. If your child is new to the Pond and has not completed any level 2 clinics your player is required to be approved by Pond Coaches.
  • Ages 12 to 14: Approved AA, AAA Rep Player. If your child is new to the Pond and has not completed any level 2 clinics your player is required to be approved by Pond Coaches.

RYAN’S REP ACCELERATION & SPEED TRAINING: SPEED WINS! Translate edge and power skating work into acceleration, speed, and quickness with Ryan Moore! Learn how to maximize edge and stride efficiencies learned in other classes to explosively sprint, accelerate and improve overall speed in hockey situations. Players will learn how to use their speed to win battles and leave opponents behind. This program focuses on: SMALL & LARGE AREA ACCELERATION, LATERAL ACCELERATION, STRAIGHT ACCELERATION, ALL WITH AND WITHOUT A PUCK.


LEVEL Elite/Pro: 

HIGH-PERFORMANCE & SMALL GROUPS

  • Ages 15+: This clinic is for draft year/drafted players OR Approved Player by Michele/Ryan /Greg/Agent referral.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE TRAINING FOR ELITE/PRO PLAYERS AGES 15+: This clinic is a professional style program focusing on the following skills at an ELITE level. Advanced edge work & edge & control body control, Power, acceleration, explosiveness, agility/lateral movement/first 3 steps. All with and without the puck.

SUMMER REP TRAINING

Session Dates: TBA

Players participate in 6 high-intensity training sessions over the course of 2 weeks. Sharpen your skills for Spring Rep Tryouts. Our coaches focus on the skills needed for players to perform their best.

These sessions focus on the following:

  • Power Skating & Overspeed drills
  • Acceleration, Quickness & Agility
  • Puck control at top speed and in tight spaces
  • Passing and shooting
  • Overall performance

Skaters are grouped by birth year and calibre.

We are unable to accommodate requests to skate with friends or to skate on certain days.

Skaters will be emailed their group dates & times one week prior to first skate.
