Learn to Skate Ages 3-12

Learn to Skate Program

Our Learn to Skate Program provides a fun, welcoming introduction to skating for first-time participants. Through age-appropriate instruction and positive on-ice experiences, skaters build the skills, confidence, and balance needed for future hockey and skating development. We strongly encourage skaters to complete and graduate from the full program.

Required & Recommended Equipment

Mandatory:

  • CSA-approved helmet with full face mask

Recommended:

  • Hockey skates or figure skates (plastic skates are not recommended)
  • Snow pants and jacket
  • Gloves or mittens
  • Knee and elbow pads (recommended for added protection; however, they may restrict movement for some very young children)

Skaters Ages 3-6 will focus on:

  • Learning how to fall safely and get up independently
  • Building balance and confidence on the ice
  • Forward and backward skating
  • Basic stops, turns, edges, and glides
  • Gradually increasing speed and control

Skaters Ages 7–12 will focus on:

  • Forward and backward skating
  • Stops and turns
  • Edge control and gliding
  • Increased speed, balance, and overall skating ability
